WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas highway officials say the southbound lanes of the Interstate 55 bridge over the Mississippi River have reopened after a crash blocked traffic for hours.
The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department says the lanes reopened at about 1 p.m. Wednesday. The traffic backup began shortly after a fiery crash involving a tractor-trailer at about 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Police tell Memphis, Tennessee, television station WMC (http://bit.ly/1nk5TSs) that an SUV stalled on the bridge, and the driver of the tractor-trailer tried to swerve to avoid hitting it. The truck then crashed into a retaining wall, causing the fire.
