Investigation underway after shooting injures two in West Helena

An investigation is underway after a shooting left two 21-year-old men injured on the evening of July 15 at an Exxon station in West Helena.

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. — An investigation is underway after a shooting left two injured on the evening of July 15 at an Exxon station in West Helena.

According to reports, the Helena-West Helena Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at 670 Sebastian Street. 

Upon arrival, witnesses stated that a man verbally confronted another man in the store before shooting him and exiting the building.

The man who had been shot then allegedly retrieved a weapon from his vehicle and shot back, striking the other multiple times. Both men were identified as 21-year-olds from West Helena.

The pair were air-lifted and transported to Regional One Hospital in Memphis where they are reportedly in critical condition.

The Helena-West Helena Police Department requested the Arkansas State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to investigate this case. CID agents will prepare a file for the prosecutor to recommend any charges.
