Investigation underway after suspect shot by Washington Co. deputy in high-speed pursuit

An investigation is underway after a deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office discharged their weapon, resulting in the death of one person.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — An investigation is underway after a man from Rogers died from gunshot injuries after a Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy discharged their weapon.

On the night of December 3, the deputy attempted to stop a pickup truck at Blue Springs Road and Beav-O-Rama Road in northeast Washington County.

According to reports, the driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The suspect drove through a fence, down a dead-end road, and into a field, where he then stopped.

When the deputy exited the patrol car and approached the vehicle, the driver rapidly accelerated in reverse, striking the patrol car.

At this time, the deputy discharged their firearm in response to the suspect's actions. Emergency response teams were requested, but the suspect died at the scene. He was later identified as 57-year-old Scottie Stacy.

A passenger in the vehicle was reportedly not injured.

Sheriff Cantrell has asked the Arkansas State Police (ASP) to investigate the incident. The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave, as is normal procedure.

This investigation is currently ongoing. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
