Jan Morgan, a GOP candidate for Governor of Arkansas, has called the enhanced concealed carry law a "disaster" and said it would've never happened if she was governor, according to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
At a meeting with the Republican Women of Washington County, Morgan and State Representative Charlie Collins discussed the controversial gun law. Collins introduced the enhanced carry bill in the legislature in 2017 and it was eventually signed into law by Governor Asa Hutchinson.
The law allows people who completed the "enhanced" training to carry their firearm onto college campuses, government buildings and bars. College students with the training would also be able to bring their handgun into dorms as long as it's kept within arm's reach.
Morgan, who owns the Gun Cave Indoor Firing Range in Hot Springs, disagreed with the law and said she would refuse to teach it. She said it was "30 pages of additional restrictions."
When asked by Collins if she would have vetoed the bill, she claimed it would've never been a bill "under her leadership."
"There's not going to be a bully pulpit, bullying Republican legislators to act and vote like Democrats," Morgan said.
Morgan suggested that Arkansas needs to be a "constitutional carry" state, which she said people wouldn't need "to get that permission slip from the state."
