LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Friday morning a fast-moving system will bring a round of precipitation to the Natural State.

Temperatures will be cold enough at cloud level to near the surface for snowflakes in parts of Arkansas. Snow will mainly be light, but a burst of moderate snow may reduce the visibility and accumulate rapidly.

Winter weather chance

The highest chance of winter weather in the form of snow is in the higher terrain of the Ozarks and Ouachitas.

The temperatures will likely stay at or below freezing (32°F) for most of Friday morning into the afternoon, which could lead to some slick roads and slippery conditions in the mountains. Sleet and rain may mix in at times.

Snow may cause slick conditions on some roads

For Central Arkansas, including the Little Rock metro, there is a chance that big snowflakes and sleet will be falling on Friday morning before it changes to all rain later in the day. Even if there is some winter weather, no impacts are expected as the temperatures stay well above freezing.

You might be wondering though— how much snow?

Most areas in Central Arkansas will see nothing to only a trace of snow. Areas in the north and west may see an isolated dusting to 1/2" if a moderate band of snow develops.

Elevations of 1500 feet and above will likely see a trace to 1" with some isolated spots seeing 2" of snow.

If you don't get snow from this storm, there are other chances going into next week as an active pattern is becoming established over the Mid-South.

We will be watching the chance of rain ending as snow on Monday into early Tuesday next week, mostly favoring N and W Arkansas again.
