LRPD makes arrest in deadly shooting, first homicide of 2024

Little Rock police have now made an arrest in a homicide that happened on E. 39th Street early Monday morning.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Update: Police have arrested 23-year-old Quentin Thomas of Little Rock for his involvement in this homicide. He has been charged with aggravated robbery and manslaughter. 

Little Rock police are investigating a homicide that happened on E. 39th Street early Monday morning.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 3:43 a.m. on Jan. 1 as officers found a man who had been shot on E. 39th Street. Police identified 20-year-old Broderick Barefield as the victim.

Officers made contact with a witness who said he was inside his car when an "unknown Black male" opened the door and showed him a gun demanding his property. Shortly after another witness said that an individual pulled a gun on them.

There's no information on a possible motive behind the shooting.
