Little Rock School District Superintendent announces resignation from position

On Thursday, Little Rock School District Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright announced his resignation from the district.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Thursday afternoon, Little Rock School District Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright announced his resignation from the district.

He announced his resignation in a letter where he thanked the LRSD school board for allowing him to serve as superintendent of the district. He was hired in May 2022 to replace former superintendent Michael Poore, who was retiring at the time.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to work alongside the board and staff to usher in significant changes in district operations all geared toward student outcomes," Wright said in the letter.

Dr. Wright also explained how he has grown immensely since taking on the position and how he's grateful for the opportunity that was given to him.

"It is critical that the LRSD Board of Education employ a superintendent whose leadership style, priorities, and core values align with the direction and actions of the school board," Wright said. "This is the only way the LRSD can flourish."

In response to the resignation, the Little Rock School District released a statement saying that they will follow up with information regarding the next steps in the transition plan soon.

A board member explained that Dr. Wright will continue working for LRSD for the time being and that the date of his last day has not been finalized just yet.

However, they will not be providing any additional comments for the time being.

In regard to his resignation, Dr. Wright shared a statement with us where he explained that he did not resign to accept a different position elsewhere.

"I’m taking time to consider where and how I can make the most impact," he added.
