LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — You may remember how after Tropical Depression Beryl dumped rain on us in early July, a sinkhole formed on Bowman Road in west Little Rock.
Since then, crews have been working to get it all fixed.
Bowman Road has looked a bit different since the massive sinkhole formed at the entrance to a nearby shopping center.
"The heavy rain [contributed], and also the pipe was failing. So some of these pipes are like metal pipes, and they're old, and sometimes they corroded, and we don't know until something like this happens," explained Maneesh Krishnan, the Little Rock Public Works Assistant Director.
Crews have been working to fix it since then and Krishnan said that they have certainly been making progress.
"We hired a contractor to fix the concrete curb and the driveway and the sidewalk there, and they have just finished that work. They're cleaning up right now, and as early as next week, we will be ready for another contractor to come in and pave the street," Krishnan explained.
However, he also explained how it has been a lengthy and detailed process.
"It's a certain type of pipe, and it takes time for it to be manufactured and delivered to the site. So that was the first piece of the puzzle. So our operations crew ordered the pipe, and the pipe came in a few weeks afterward. They installed the pipe, and then they moved out of the way. And now our concrete contractor came in and did the other work," he added.
During these repairs, traffic has had to shift from two lanes to one on a portion of Bowman, but Krishnan said it shouldn't last much longer.
"Since this contractor is out of the way, we're going to schedule the next one, [to come] next week. [We] really appreciate everybody's patience. We're trying to do our best, and we appreciate you," he said.
Krishnan expects the whole project to be completed within the next couple of weeks.
