LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - "Her pain is my pain, my pain is her pain. But one thing I wanted to do today was apologize to my wife," Former Baltimore Raven Ray Rice issues this apology after being suspended indefinitely by NFL. The suspension came after the release of new video evidence of Rice punching his then-fiancee Janay Palmer and dragging her out of an Atlantic City hotel elevator.
"There are consequences to people's actions," Laura Webb explains. Webb knows this from personal experience. She is a domestic violence survivor who narrowly escaped the wrath of her then-husband. Webb explains, "He assaulted me with a truck and ran over me then backed over me and drove back over me and left me for dead."
Webb is now divorced but admits, being in the situation and making the decision to leave her abuser was difficult. She says, "It was a very difficult decision to press charges on my husband because he made a substantial amount of money and I knew that if his career was over then my income was also greatly reduced." She compares her experience to that of Janay Rice who married Rice just a month after the beating.
Janay Rice says, "I am happy that we continued to work through it together and we are continuing to strengthen our relationship and our marriage." Janay Rice continues to defend her husband despite this video showing her getting knocked to the floor. While Webb uses this and her own experience to spread awareness, hoping the world is listening. Webb says, "It only takes one time for someone to kill someone and he easily, with the amount of strength and power that he had, could have killed her."
