Little Rock's River Market Entertainment District turns 5 years old

In 2019, the Little Rock Board of Directors approved the ability to walk around downtown with alcohol under certain conditions.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — On Friday, Little Rock's entertainment district turned five years old.

In 2019, board directors approved the ability to walk around downtown Little Rock with alcohol under certain conditions.

It was a beautiful night for the celebration. Live music and people lined Clinton Avenue, walking in and out of restaurants in the River Market.

"We had a couple of drinks, and it's nice being able to walk around," Audreia Eubanks said.

Audreia Eubanks and her mom, Viola, spent the evening enjoying the weather and catching up with each other.

"I do like the idea of being able just to walk around and chit-chat with my mom while we have a nice little cocktail," Audreia Eubanks said.

The entertainment district allows people to explore downtown Little Rock with alcohol under certain conditions.

You must get a wristband and a special cup from a participating location.

Dugan's Pub is one of those restaurants involved. The owner, Don Dugan, said it's been great for business.

"It's a fun thing to be able to just walk around... have a beer and not feel like you have to hurry up and finish [the drink] and go somewhere else," Dugan said. "Then, hurry up and finish that there."

Dugan said it's been so successful that last year, the city approved to expand the district from 4th to Cumberland streets.

But there's one thing this owner hopes will happen as the entertainment district continues.

"Some more people utilizing it," Dugan said. "I think some people aren't aware that it's possible to come down here and do that," said Dugan.
