PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) – Crews are hard at work in Pine Bluff as water floods the streets.
At least 20 street crews were out working on Wednesday evening trying to keep streets clear for drivers.
One company that THV11 spoke with said that the rain is really affecting his business.
Chris Jacobs with Pick Your Parts Auto Truck Salvage found his shop under nearly seven inches of water on Wednesday morning.
“Yeah, this is the worst I have seen it in 15 years….this is going to hurt my business tremendously.”
Jacobs is more concerned about the rest of the week with the heavy rains. He said with his whole two acres being flooded, he will have to put off working on his customers vehicles.
“With the heavy rainfall that we have had since last night, we have several streets in Pine Bluff that are flooding,” said Rick Rhoden, Street Department Director for the City of Pine Bluff.
One of those areas where the water is still rising is next to homes, businesses and a major road. The City of Pine Bluff says if it keeps raining like this, they will be most concerned about those areas.
“If Bayou Bartholomew gets up much higher we will probably have to shut off a few roads that go across it,” said Rhoden.
Since Pine Bluff is so flat, the city has issues with water backing up because none of it drains.
“We have three ditching machines our right now mainly trying to clear the ends of where pine tree, leaves, trash from people's yard that has floated into it and stopped up the drainage systems,” said Rhoden.
The Pine Bluff Street Department expects extensive street flooding throughout the night if the rain continues.
