YELL COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) – The man accused of shooting and killing a Yell County deputy and two others pleaded not guilty in the Dardanelle District Court Monday morning.
A judge issued no bond for 42-year-old James Bowden who is charged with three counts of capital murder.
Police say Bowden shot 46-year-old Lieutenant Kevin Mainhart, 61-year-old Rita Miller and 17-year-old Ciera Miller, then he took a woman hostage in a five-hour standoff with police.
The judge issued a gag order in the case, but did unseal the affidavit which details what happened the morning of May 11. It stated that Mainhart was responding to a domestic disturbance call in Dardanelle just before 7 a.m. when he saw Bowden’s vehicle. He conducted a traffic stop around 7:18 a.m. near Slow Fork Road and Highway 27 where a witness say Mainhart was shot.
Bowden’s pretrial is set for July 13.
