19-year-old dies of 'self-inflicted gunshot wound' after leading Arkansas police on high-speed chase

Arkansas State Police's Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an incident where a Tulsa man died after leading police on a high-speed chase down I-40.

ARKANSAS, USA — A Tulsa man is now dead after leading Arkansas police on a high-speed chase down Interstate 40.

According to reports, just before 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, the Forrest City Police Department (FCPD) informed Arkansas State Police (ASP) that they were on the hunt for two robbery suspects who were driving down I-40.

The suspect's vehicle reached triple-digit speeds and the FCPD lost the vehicle near mile marker 247. ASP later located the vehicle on Highway 64 in Wynne and began a traffic stop.

The vehicle pulled over briefly and then the suspects took off once again. Spike strips were deployed and the vehicle was successfully stopped near Highway 193. Both suspects got out of the vehicle and ran off.

Police were then able to take the passenger into custody without incident, but not the driver.

The driver, later identified as 19-year-old Dillon J. Scrivner of Tulsa, was armed and found inside a parked vehicle by a house nearby. Upon being found he ran off once again.

A K-9 with ASP and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were called to help track down Scrivner. They finally located him in a field suffering from a "self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Troopers gave Scrivner medical aid and he was then taken to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead just before 10:30 p.m.

The body has been taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The Criminal Investigation Division of Arkansas State Police has launched an investigation into this incident, and we will update with more information once it becomes available.
