Man hit by train in Fayetteville identified by police

Police say they received a call around 4 a.m. from a conductor with the Arkansas-Missouri Railroad.

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — According to the Fayetteville Police Department (FPD), a man was found dead after being hit by a train in the early morning hours of Aug. 16.

Police say they received a call around 4 a.m. from a conductor with the Arkansas-Missouri Railroad stating they had just hit, and possibly killed, a man who was lying on the tracks.

The conductor reportedly told police he saw the man on the tracks ahead of the crash, and despite using the train's horn, the man was still hit and killed.

Once the train was able to stop, the train's crew confirmed the man was dead, but it is currently unknown whether or not the train was what killed him, police said.

On Monday, Aug. 19, Fayetteville Public Information Officer Stephen Mauk confirmed to 5NEWS that the man was identified as 20-year-old Colin Wilhoit of Bentonville.
