TRUMANN, Ark. (WREG) - One person is dead and another is arrested after a shooting at the Walmart in Trumann, Arkansas.
Trumann Police Chief Chad Henson confirmed authorities received a call to the business late Sunday about a man, identified as 22-year-old Gabriel Urrabazo, had arrived on the scene with a gun. By the time they responded, he had his ex-wife, Faith Morgan, held at gunpoint in the parking lot.
Officers attempted to negotiate with Urrabazo when another man named Robert Highfill tried to intervene. Highfill was shot and killed. According to our sister station WREG, an employee of the Walmart said Highfill was a regular customer and a father of three young children.
Approximately 30 to 40 customers and employees were inside the building at the time and had to wait as officers went through intense negotiations with the suspect. Eventually, Urrabazo let Morgan go and started to walk away and officers continued to urge him to drop his weapon. Over an hour later, Urrabazo allegedly turned himself into police.
So far, police haven't released a motive for this incident. Authorities have said they believe it was an isolated domestic incident. Urrabazo is being held in the Craighead County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He is facing first-degree murder charges.
