Man injured after gunfire exchange with ASP

One man was left injured on Monday, after fleeing from and then exchanging gunfire with Arkansas State Police troopers while on Interstate 30.

HOPE, Ark. — One man was left injured on Monday, after fleeing from and firing at Arkansas State Police troopers while on Interstate 30.

According to reports, just after 10:00 p.m. on July 22, troopers were attempting to pursue the fleeing suspect along I-30 eastbound near the Hempstead/Nevada County line.

The suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Joshua Harrison of Richmond, Indiana, then fired shots at the troopers who also returned fire at Harrison.

One trooper then performed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, but Harrison was able to drive his vehicle back onto I-30 by crossing over the interstate onto the median and heading toward eastbound traffic. The vehicle was then struck by an 18-wheeler that was headed eastbound.

Harrison then exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. He was given medical aid on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital. A female passenger was also taken into custody and was transported to the Hempstead County Detention Center.

No troopers were injured during the incident.

The Criminal Investigation Division of ASP is investigating the incident, and an investigative case file will be shown to the prosecuting attorney that will determine whether or not the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas laws.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.
