Man receives 30-year prison sentence for illegally possessing ammunition in Pine Bluff

The 32-year-old man shot a woman and waved the firearm at a witness before firing multiple rounds at an apartment housing the victim and her son.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. — A 32-year-old Texas man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for illegally possessing ammunition, the Office of the United States Attorney Eastern District of Arkansas on Wednesday.

Quincy Martez Chambers, who the United States Attorney Eastern District of Arkansas said is a multi-convicted felon, was taken into custody for a shooting incident that happened in Pine Bluff on October 18, 2023.

The Office of the United States Attorney Eastern District of Arkansas said Chambers shot a former girlfriend outside of an apartment and waved the firearm at a witness before firing multiple rounds of ammunition into an apartment where the victim and her young son went to take cover.

"The sentence handed down by the judge underscores our goal to remove violent people who continuously terrorize the community and have no respect for the life of others," said Jonathan D. Ross, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. "The collaboration of federal, state, and local partners is an integral partnership in the comprehensive strategy to make communities safer through an aggressive pursuit and protection of violent defenders."

Due to Chambers' violent history and domestic battery convictions, United States District Judge James M. Moody Jr. qualified Chambers as an "armed career criminal" at his sentencing hearing, which resulted in a sentence of 30 years imprisonment with five years of supervised release. Chambers didn't receive a fine, but he must pay $100 for a special assessment.

“Through collaboration and dedication, we stand united in our pursuit of justice," Little Rock Police Chief Heath Helton said. "I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those involved in the criminal justice process as we work together to serve and support the victims and their families."

There is no parole in the federal system.
