Water slowly returns to neighborhood in Faulkner County

After a freezing cold weekend, many people throughout the state are still dealing with water issues— including Mayflower residents.

FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. — In an effort to refill tanks after struggling to keep up with demand during the recent cold, the Mayflower Water Department has had to shut down some services

On Christmas Eve, the city of Mayflower posted on Facebook that due to a leak the water would be shut off.

Boyd Ward explained that he has lived in the River Plantation neighborhood for 20 years, and like many residents in the area he’s frustrated after waking up on Monday morning to water issues.

“We didn't at this house begin to experience low water pressure until this morning. But other people in the neighborhood have complained that they had no water pressure yesterday,” Ward described. “My wife tried to shower this morning, and she barely got a trickle. Very concerned.”

He and his neighbors weren’t sure what was behind the lack of water.

“We have no idea if the water leak has been fixed, or when it will be fixed, when water pressure will be restored. If there's a boil order, and if there is when it you know how long it may be, in effect, just important stuff,” said Ward.

His neighbors have all been relying on each other for the latest updates.

“I mean, our best source of information is sharing amongst ourselves what we've been able to find out, which is not a lot,” said Ward. “It would be a lot I guess easier to deal with it. The city would just tell us what's going on and give us some framework.”

Mayflower City Council Member, Brian Williams, used Facebook to post a video explaining what happened.

“Our three tanks of water in Mayflower are empty. So, they are shutting down the water system shortly. And the reason they're shutting the water system down is so they can fill the tanks back up,” Williams explained. “We have not had any broken pipes on our side of the meters, the city side of the meters. There have been some breaks on the customer side of the meters that are using more water.”

Ward said his water has been restored and the city hopes that water will be fully restored for everyone soon. Until then they have asked people to be patient.

“They're doing everything they can with their resources, the manpower, they have to get it done,” Williams added.

As of Tuesday night, the city of Mayflower explained that everyone on the system is on a boil notice.

Williams also added that after shutting off water in three parts of town, two of those are running again. They are hopeful that by Wednesday morning everyone should have water once again.

As of Wednesday afternoon, we were informed that all residents in the city have water once again.
