New system to replace tornado sirens in Cabot

The city of Cabot is using new ways to alert citizens of severe weather

CABOT, Ark. (KTHV) -- The city of Cabot is using new ways to alert citizens of severe weather.

A new weather alert system will eventually take the place of tornado sirens in the city.

There are lots of people who love the new alert system, but some still want to be able to rely on sirens.

“We will use the sirens as long as they work even if it gets down to one.”

Cabot Mayor, Bill Cypert, is focusing on making the city safe.

“They're just too expensive to install a new system…you can no longer get parts you can no longer get service.”

Code Red will notify any telephone number through a call and text message if you have that capability on your phone.

If new technology isn't your thing, there is another option

“Code Red works. It is safe. But if they still don’t trust it they can buy their own personalized weather radio,” said Cypert.

Phone, email and social media are all things Code Red covers but is that enough when it comes to safety?

Two local citizens Cabot said, “Not only do I support it, but it supports us.”

Dianne and Kira Pounds love the advantages of the new system and have already seen it pay off.

“There’s a variety of sounds you can choose from and also they show if you have flash flood warnings all different types of ways.”

Right now, the mayor is encouraging everyone to get signed up for the system.
