North Little Rock church to hold grief counseling sessions in January

Some families are grieving the loss of a loved one this holiday season, and a church in North Little Rock is offering support to let them know they’re not alone.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Grief is no easy thing to conquer, and it's not a thing that's easy to overcome.

For members of First Baptist Church in North Little Rock, they know that firsthand.

"When I experienced the death of my child, which he was my only child, that was a feeling I had never experienced in my life," First Baptist Church congregation member Keysha Moore said. "It was gut-wrenching, very heartbreaking."

Laura Landrum, another congregation member, is also familiar with the feeling.

"I've buried five children," Landrum said. "When you're losing your children, it's such a deep pain, and we have so much of it right now."

Their grief connects them. Pastor William Robinson knows this time of year should be for family, but it's not always easy during the holidays.

"While many would be celebrating, somebody would be crying because there's an empty seat," Robinson said. "There's an empty plate."

While the group has leaned on each other a lot lately, they know others need as much help as they do.

"I still have my days," Moore said. "But I try to help and comfort people that also went through this after me."

That help will be extended to all who need it starting on Jan. 16 at 6:00 p.m. Members of the church invite anyone needing someone to talk to come out.

The church is located at 811 SA Jones Drive in North Little Rock.

"All are welcome to give support," Robinson said. "You don't have to go at it alone."

Also a part of the conversation – changing minds as well.

"This will launch a different perspective... getting back in the streets and being a voice for these young people, and maybe reaching the heart of those pulling the trigger," Landrum said. "Let them see the pain they're causing within our communities and families."
