MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) -- A former boxing champion was arrested Tuesday night after a shooting reportedly happened in his home.
According to Lt. Carl Minden with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, the wife of Jermain Taylor called 911 around 6 p.m. to report a shooting at their home in north Pulaski County. A single shooting victim with multiple gunshot wounds was reportedly found a short time later on Highway 365, about five miles from Taylor's home.
The victim, who is said to be Taylor's cousin, is listed in serious condition at an area hospital.
Lt. Minden said Taylor, his cousin, and one other man got into an altercation before Taylor allegedly shot his cousin several times. Taylor's cousin and the other man reportedly fled the scene by vehicle.
Taylor, 36, was questioned by Pulaski County Sheriff's Office investigators and then arrested and charged with one count of first degree battery and one count of aggravated assault. According to the arrest report sent to THV11 by Lt. Minden, Taylor admitted to going into his home, obtaining a firearm, and shooting his cousin.
Taylor is being held without bond at the Pulaski County Detention Center in Little Rock.
Lt. Minden told THV 11 that Taylor will appear by video arraignment at Pulaski County District Court. He was at first to appear at 8:15 a.m. but THV's Kevin Trager has learned he will appear closer to 8:45 a.m. Video arraignment is standard procedure.
