NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – It's a walk neighbors in North Little Rock never wanted to take. Tired of saying goodbye to friends, they came together on Friday night to ask for peace to take over.
"It makes me feel good, because I'm able to honor my child, who I miss dearly," said Amy Stivers, who lost her daughter seven years ago in a shooting. "You don't want to wait until it happens to you."
The walk was organized by two North Little Rock students. One of them, Greg Fudge, is tired of going to funerals.
"Probably three to five students right off the bat that I could really think that I was close to," Fudge said.
Families and friends hope to stop a cycle of never-ending heartbreak. One that took Amy Stivers' daughter Danick Adams too soon.
"She was murdered in Jacksonville at a 24-hour fitness center," Stivers said. "Her anniversary date is tomorrow and her case is still unsolved."
North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith, North Little Rock Police Chief Mike Davis and NLR Officer Tommy Norman all came out to join in on the march. They hope that one day their youth can turn a new leaf.
"Don't violate the law," Davis said. "Stay in school, get a job and really make yourself a fine young man or woman."
