North Little Rock police establish real-time crime center | Here's how it works

NLRPD is the latest police department in Arkansas to establish a real-time crime center as technology continues to improve in the state.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A new partnership is emerging between North Little Rock and Little Rock, as both agencies have now decided to work together by using their new Real Time Crime Center in hopes of being able to respond to crimes sooner.

Sergeant Gary Jones with the North Little Rock Police Department explained how this new system has been in the works for a couple of years now for their police department. He also said that it has already shown promising results.

"It really helps add more eyes out there for the police department, and it also helps protect the citizens and visitors to our city and keep them safe," Sergeant Jones added.

Sergeant Jones, who is over the department, said that this new software gives them access to city cameras and integrates with businesses to help in case of an emergency.

"As soon as the 911 call comes in we can start looking and have eyes on the situation. We can give that information to our responding officers as they're coming into the area and tell them what we're seeing on the scene," he said.

By having a partnership with LRPD, Sergeant Jones says there's a feature that allows each agency to communicate back and forth to let each other know what is going on.

"With the city being divided by a river, if something happens over here or over there, and we have a suspect description, we can shoot them a message really quick. Then have them look for a vehicle that may be crossing the bridge into their city and they can get that information, you know, in real time," said Sergeant Jones.

Whether it relates to a big or small crime, the North Little Rock Police Department advises residents in the area to take advantage of the system too.

"It takes a little burden off of our investigators, so they don't have to go walk the neighborhoods. If we've got a lot of people registering their cameras, it saves a lot of time, and we can get that information in quickly," Sergeant Jones said.
