NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Ozone Action Advisory has been issued for parts of Central Arkansas on June 13 and 14, 2024.
The areas impacted by this advisory include Pulaski, Saline, Faulkner, Perry, and Lonoke counties.
The Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has forecasted that ozone concentrations in the area show that the air quality may be unhealthy for active children, adults, and people who are in sensitive groups.
The Arkansas Department of Health and the DEQ have issued a "Code Orange" air quality advisory due to the monitored concentrations being above the 8-hour National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) of 0.070 parts per million.
Active children, adults, and people with respiratory conditions such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis are urged to take precautions to reduce any health risks from ozone exposure.
To help reduce ozone emissions people are encouraged to do the following:
- Refuel cars and lawnmowers after 7:00 p.m.
- Avoid fuel spills, and do not “top off” tanks
- Carpool or use mass transit when possible
- Combine errands rather than going on separate vehicle trips
- Do not drive unnecessarily, especially during peak traffic hours or during the hottest part of the day
