LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Urban Garden Montessori school in downtown Little Rock has abruptly closed its doors.
Now, parents are scrambling to find another alternative for their children.
Parents received no phone call or personal goodbye, just an email from the head of the school saying in part, “I am very sorry to let you know that Urban Garden Montessori is closing, effective immediately. Financial circumstances have forced us to make this decision.”
“I miss my teachers and I miss my camp because I had to skip it,” said Jaury and Jace Burke, former students.
There is no way to tell that the school is closed besides the locked front door. Even the website and Facebook page show no signs that the school will no longer be in session.
“I believe they did everything they did as far as we know and I can give the benefit of the doubt but there were no conversations with us ever warning for that,” said parents Jim and Lisa Burke.
According to the Arkansas Business website, Moses Tucker Real Estate confirmed that UGM had been late on their rent but was never involved in any eviction action.
Now, a post on the Facebook page for Urban Garden parents says the school is meeting with donors this week to request funding to help save the school.
“There might be an angel donor they might be up and running but there will have to be a lot of trust built back up.”
The Burkes are fortunate to be able to bring their children to work with them temporarily, but they worry for other parents.
THV11 reached out to the head of the school several times by phone and were unable to reach anyone.
