LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — Last week, the Little Rock School District discussed the possibility of closing a school.
So far, no action has been taken, but the rumors have still continued. The most recent story that has been spreading is that Parkview High School is on the chopping block— but is that true?
"The official answer of closing Parkview is a no," said LRSD board member Vicki Hatter.
After there were some social media rumors about whether or not LRSD's Parkview was closing, the school district emphasized that is not happening right now. However, there are discussions surrounding Parkview's future.
"An idea came about the relocation of Parkview," said Hatter.
As LRSD officials look at the budget and decreasing enrollment, there have been conversations about the possibility of needing to close a school within the district.
The community sent in ideas on how they wanted to see the district move forward. One of those ideas is the relocation of Parkview to the new West High School location when it's built.
"The fact that Parkview has been mentioned draws concern for me," said Little Rock Director, Andrea Lewis.
Both LRSD Board member Vicki Hatter and Little Rock Director Andrea Lewis' districts include Parkview.
Director Lewis explained how she wants to see Parkview stay in its current location.
"John Barrow neighborhood, the community, the city overall deserves this school. This functioning, operating building, we need it to reside here," she added.
Hatter said that enrollment at Parkview is stable and should be considered in the overall picture.
They want to hear from the community about the proposal to move the school and get as many opinions as they can. The meeting will be at the West Central Community Center on Monday, December 4 at 6:00 p.m.
