Pelicans find Pine Bluff lake perfect for winter, but it's much more than that to humans

Saracen Landing offers serene fishing for anglers, enchanting wildlife for photographers and an epic playground for families.

This week, Adam Bledsoe and Mariel Ruiz hit the road to Discover Arkansas in Pine Bluff. They quickly found Saracen Landing in the heart of PB!

While the rain put a damper on the fishing, it did not damper our spirits to explore Saracen Lake.

We first saw a small flock of American White Pelicans. The pelicans are in Arkansas for the winter and will fly north in the Spring. Park goers told us, the pelicans show up by the dozens each year and attract wildlife photographers from all over the state.

We also met a few fishermen taking advantage of the pier-like docks. Saracen Lake is full of largemouth bass, white crappie, bream and catfish. "There are some big fish in here," said one angler. Mariel tried her luck at fishing with a borrowed pole but came out empty-handed.

Our trip ended with a quick jaunt through a nearby public playground. It was built in early 2018 and created completely accessible for children with disabilities. The park's design included outdoor instruments like large drums and a xylophone.

During the summer months, Saracen Landing would be perfect for a trip to the farmers market, the splash pad, or a party under the 10,080 square foot pavilion.
