Searcy police warn residents to be on lookout after bear sighting

Searcy police warned residents about a recent black bear sighting after one was seen around the bike trails near N. Main on May 18.

SEARCY, Ark. — Editor's note: The black bear in the picture is not the bear seen in Searcy.

The Searcy Police Department confirmed in a Facebook post that a black bear was spotted in town on May 18.

The bear's last known location was around the bike trails off of N. Main. 

If you see it, do not approach it and call (501) 268-3531 to report its location. Officials added that Arkansas Game and Fish is also aware of the bear sighting.

Black bears are native to Arkansas and don’t want anything to do with people. Instead, they almost always run away or avoid humans. If you encounter a bear, here are some tips to keep you safe.
