Arkansas deputy fatally shoots man, investigation underway

Arkansas State Police are investigating after a 39-year-old Shannon Hills man died as a result of his injuries in an altercation with deputies in Saline County.

SALINE COUNTY, Ark. — On November 16, deputies with the Saline County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Wasson Lane in Shannon Hills after a resident reported an intoxicated individual making terroristic threats.

Upon arrival, officials made contact with 39-year-old Jeremy Dale Adams and a physical altercation occurred when Adams became combative and allegedly refused to comply with deputies' orders.

In an attempt to gain control of Adams, one of the deputies deployed a taser. During the encounter, a deputy also fired his service weapon at Adams, striking him more than once.

Adams was air-lifted to UAMS in Little Rock, where he later died. His body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the manner and cause of death will be determined.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office has asked the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division to take over the investigation.

An investigative case file will be presented to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force by officers was consistent with Arkansas law.

The investigation is currently ongoing. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
