MAYFLOWER, Ark. — Update: Police have now identified the two victims who were found dead.

The Mayflower Police Department is investigating after they found two deceased people while performing a welfare check on Tuesday afternoon.

According to reports, at about 12:30 p.m., officers were called to the First Baptist Church of Mayflower on Hwy 89 North to perform a welfare check.

Once they arrived at the scene, officers found one man and one woman deceased with apparent gunshot wounds. They were later identified as 45-year-old Jalesha Jeffrey and 24-year-old Antonio Simmons of Conway.

Investigators also found two firearms and other evidence while at the scene, and explained how all evidence in the case supports the fact that both victims suffered from "self-inflicted gunshot wounds."

Reports also state that they don't believe any other people were involved in the incident.

The bodies have been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsies to be performed.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.
