ARKANSAS, USA — It's the last thing you want to wake up to – you get out to your car in the morning, and see that someone has broken in and stolen from you.
It's exactly the situation David Baccash found himself in last week.
"I didn't think they'd be bold enough to do it right next to the surveillance camera," Baccash said. "You feel kind of violated, for lack of a better term, like somebody was in your personal space [it] doesn't feel right."
After getting off work Tuesday night, Baccash parked at his apartment complex, The Pointe North Hills. He admits, he accidentally left his door unlocked, leading to someone stealing a credit card from his car.
"It's just frustrating that even though we live in a gated community, sometimes they just hop the fence," Baccash said.
According to the North Little Rock Police Department, it's not the first time someone has reported a theft from their car at that complex. Officials said there are six reports at of breaking and entering into a car at that apartment complex over the last three months.
But it's not isolated to this complex – it's happening across Central Arkansas.
The Little Rock Police Department said it's seen 63 incidents over the past seven days. Those incidents may include more than one vehicle.
LRPD officials said 10 people have been arrested in connection to these thefts.
With the holidays coming up, it's a good time to remember the basics of keeping your items safe. Never leave valuables in your car overnight, and park somewhere you're sure your car will be safe.
If you do see suspicious activity, always call the police.
For Baccash, he's still frustrated this happened to him in the first place. It's why he's offering up his own advice.
"The biggest thing is to have each other's back," Baccash said. "Just be respectful of other people's property and personal space."
