How do I recirculate the A/C in my car?

As June heats up in Arkansas, it's important to stay cool, even in the car— and knowing where to find your recirculation button can help keep the A/C blowing cold.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — It's June in Arkansas and temperatures will continue to rise as the days go on, making it important to find ways to stay cool.

Most vehicles have a button that helps the A/C circulate, but you may not have used it before. Here's where you can find it.

"You know whenever those triple digits hit we get an influx of those phone calls concerned about that air conditioner so they can keep cool," said Dee Coleman, owner of Coleman & Sons Automotive in Little Rock.

He said they encounter many customers who are confused about which button to push to circulate their air inside the car and not pull hot air from outside.

"There is a recirculation button and there is a fresh air button," he explained. "In the summer months, you want to hit that recirculation button. That way that cool air stays inside of the car. You don't want that hot air coming inside fighting that cold air."

Coleman added that too many people forget to change their air filters, which can slow down the A/C.

"Yeah look at that there, it's trash," he pointed out a bad filter.

He recommended changing it out once a year at the very least.

"We're trying to get our customers ahead of the heat wave. That way they don't wait until the last minute, and all come in at once," Coleman said. "Preventative maintenance is the thing. Getting that air conditioning system tuned up."
