LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Less than one month after Red Lobster closed dozens of restaurants in the U.S., it appears that some new restaurant closures may be on the way for other parts of the country.
While Arkansas was not on the initial list of Red Lobster closings, a report released by CNN shows a new list of places, including locations in Arkansas, that are "in danger of shutting down."
In May, the company abruptly closed over 50 locations, and then they later went on to apply for bankruptcy. These closures left hundreds of people without jobs, and that number is expected to soon be increasing.
While they didn't address the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing until days after the closing of dozens of restaurants, the company released a statement where they reassured customers that the business was not going anywhere.
"For more than five decades Red Lobster has been a part of your family's life. We've been there for your celebrations, big and small," the company said in a statement. "And Red Lobster is determined to be there for these moments for generations to come. And that's why we filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection."
The report from CNN explains that if the court were to approve Red Lobster's plans to change business and cost structure, then several more locations could be closing down if they cannot renegotiate their leases.
The same report also said that Red Lobster plans to sell its business to lenders and will then in return receive financing so that they can stay afloat. Part of that plan also includes closing some of the restaurants for the time being.
The locations in Arkansas that face closures are listed below:
- 8407 W. Markham Street in Little Rock
- 4500 Central Avenue in Hot Springs
- 3885 N Shiloh Drive in Fayetteville
- 7401 Rogers Ave in Fort Smith
