FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Perfection is sweet, and Arkansas left-handed pitcher Robyn Herron knows all about it.
The sophomore made history in the circle by tossing the second perfect game in Arkansas softball history during a 7-0 victory over Illinois State in the Razorback Invitational at Bogle Park on Saturday.
Former Hog Mary Haff threw the first in 2022 against Maryland.
Herron secured the perfect game in 86 total pitches and finished with 11 strikeouts, her second double-digit strikeout performance of the season.
Entering the contest, the Tampa, Fla., native ranked tied for fourth in the SEC in innings pitched (30.2), seventh in strikeouts (33), 13th in opposing batting average (.165) and 21st in earned run average (1.60).
Herron got early run support in the bottom of the first inning against the Redbirds, as the Razorbacks loaded the bases and drew a walk to score the game's first run. Second baseman Cylie Halvorson followed with a sacrifice fly to left field before shortstop Lauren Camenzind's two-RBI single to put Arkansas up 3-0.
In the second inning, first baseman Bri Ellis added to the Razorbacks' lead with a solo home run to center field.
Arkansas collected six hits in its victory over Illinois State, with designated player Rylie Hedgecock being the lone Razorback to record multiple hits. Hedgecock, batting a .349 this season, finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Left fielder Raigan Kramer added to Arkansas's lead with a two-RBI single in the third inning, scoring Camenzind and third baseman Hannah Gammil to bring the score to 7-0.
Following the victory over Illinois State, No. 18 Arkansas downed Wichita State 15-5 in five innings to sweep Saturday's doubleheader.
The Hogs wrap up the Razorback Invitational tomorrow against UT-Arlington at 12:15 p.m. Central.
