ROSE BUD, Ark. (KTHV) -- Nick Cartwright of Rose Bud made a high school dream of his a reality.
In highschool, Cartwright was a part of EAST lab. One of the responsibilities of the class was to come up with a project to do. Cartwright decided he wanted to put a veteran's memorial in town, however at the time he couldn't get it going.
Cartwright wanted the memorial because not only are his parents veterans, many people in Rose Bud are veterans as well.
Five years later he was back in Rose Bud. This time he was determined to get the memorial built.
"It was a community effort really. I couldn't have done it without the businesses, churches, schools, and community members," he said.
A town hall was held where about 35 to 40 people showed up to give ideas about the memorial. Veterans also spoke at the meeting.
The memorial got approved. A dedication will be held on Sunday at 1:30. There will also be a community BBQ held. A perfect addition to Memorial Day Weekend.
"We want to make sure we get to the root of what it's all about. To honor those who have sacrificed so much for us." Cartwright said.
