SALINE COUNTY, Ark. — The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program has awarded Saline County with a $216,060 grant to complete essential repairs and renovations on the 122-year-old county courthouse.

The funding will be used for the repair or replacement of gutters and downspouts as needed, along with a complete roof replacement. The roof was last replaced in the 1990s during a large-scale renovation and expansion project.

Saline County will match the grant with $72,020.00, bringing the total project cost to $288,080.

"We have a multi-stage plan for the renovation of our historic courthouse," said Matt Brumley, Saline County Judge. "This grant will allow us to begin the first stage of this process, which is vitally important in the renovation and protection of this landmark we are all so proud of."

The Saline County Courthouse, which opened in 1902, is a significant landmark in the area with a rich history. These essential repairs will help preserve its structural integrity and historical value for future generations to come.

"The agency's County Courthouse grant program assists in the preservation of historical courthouses across the state that have and continue to play an important part of the Arkansas story," said Scott D. Kaufman, director of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. "This fiscal year, the department awarded a record-breaking $4,013,676.04 for courthouse restoration projects across the state. We know this grant to Saline County will be only the beginning of preserving this important structure."
