The Saline County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary incident on East Sardis Road where a man shot at a burglar in self-defense.

SALINE COUNTY, Ark. — The Saline County Sheriff's Office is investigating an alleged burglary incident that left a man with non-life-threatening injuries on Tuesday.

According to police reports, deputies were called to the 10000 block of East Sardis Road with reports of shots fired.

Police said that the homeowner called 911 to report that when he got home he found an unfamiliar man walking out of his home. They then explained that the unknown man pointed his gun at the homeowner who then proceeded to draw his own gun and shoot at the suspect in self-defense.

The suspect identified as John Nutt of Little Rock then ran off and after police searched the area they were able to find the man and take him into custody. Police said he also was found with stolen property.

Nutt had a gunshot wound to his leg that he received when the homeowner had shot at him in self-defense. He was then taken to the hospital for treatment.

Once he is released from the hospital police say he will be charged with both residential burglary and aggravated assault. There are no charges expected for the homeowner.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.
