A pilot program launched by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has school districts throughout the state planning to remove access to phones.

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. — A federal judge has now declared the seven school districts in Garland County, including Hot Springs, to be unitary.

This means that they no longer need to abide by a desegregation order that was put in place back in 1992.

The 35-page order from Federal Judge Susan Hickey found that after years of litigation, the districts in the county had met their obligations.

This now allows students to transfer to or from districts regardless of the racial makeup of those districts.

Garland County had been the last in the state of Arkansas with a desegregation order in place that covered the entire county.
