Second suspect turns himself in for 2-year-old Ra'Miya Reed's homicide

Little Rock police have arrested a second suspect in 2-year-old Ra'Miya Reed's homicide.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Little Rock police have arrested a second suspect in 2-year-old Ra'Miya Reed's homicide.

21-year-old Deshaun Rushing turned himself into police Wednesday afternoon, just one day after LRPD arrested 17-year-old Larry Jackson. It was an arrest that many in Little Rock have been praying for.

"That little precious baby didn't even begin to live her life and was shot down in a heinous act," said Reverend Benny Johnson with Arkansas Stop the Violence.

The two are accused of firing a gun as they rode in a car near the intersection of South Harrison and Charles Bussey Streets. They shot at a car that Rokiya Williams was sitting in, holding her daughter in her lap. Both face Capital Murder charges.

“I was driving,” Williams said of the moment she heard about Jackson’s arrest. “And I was crying at the same time, but I was really happy.”

Williams and a dozen of her relatives gathered outside the 12th Street police station to celebrate Tuesday afternoon. She claimed that she prayed all this time that detectives would figure out who shot her daughter.

“I had it in my mind,” she explained, “but then again, I was like, 'They’re not close yet.' But when [the detective] called me, I’m like, ‘Gotta be something,’ because I missed his call. And then he called, I called back, and that’s when he told me.”

Williams looks forward to the day she sees them both in a courtroom. She said she'd like to know the reason why the shooting happened.

“It might sound crazy, or whatever, but I really do want to talk to the person who did it,” she claimed.

LRPD believes Reed’s death fueled the recent increase in violent crime, with revenge leading to other shootings and violent crimes around Little Rock.

Jackson's attorney, Bill James, pleaded not guilty on his behalf.

"He's a young man," James said. "He has been in a little bit of trouble in the past. Generally, he's been a good client when I've represented him before.

Jackson was not granted a bond, but his attorney said they will request a bond hearing, saying the case is not "as cut and dry as people would like."
