LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — THV11 is celebrating a deserved promotion for one of its beloved on-air team members. Morning meteorologist Skot Covert has been promoted to Chief Meteorologist at THV11’s sister station 5NEWS in northwest Arkansas – a job described as a “dream” by Skot since he was a child.

Skot joined the THV11 weather team in March of 2020, and in a short time was promoted to meteorologist for the station’s morning news program, Wake Up Central.

In his four years with THV11, he kept Arkansans up to date with the latest weather information, and used his background in emergency preparedness to help people stay safe in severe weather.

Additionally, he has won three Regional Emmys and multiple other awards for his work on various projects like the impact climate has had on ducks in Arkansas, as well as the weekly franchise “Eat It Up.”

“Skot’s impact on our community and station has been tremendous. He will be missed at THV11 but we are so thrilled to see one of our best elevated to this new role, still serving the people of Arkansas,” said THV11 General Manager Marty Schack.

In addition to his weather efforts, Skot was instrumental during his time at THV11 in growing volunteerism for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign which helps ensure children have presents to open on Christmas morning.  Through interviews, social media, and storytelling, he has helped countless shelter animals find their forever homes and dozens upon dozens of restaurants tell their stories.

Skot, who grew up watching 5News, says that accepting the role of Chief is a dream realized. He included this sentiment, “Four years ago, this station took a chance on me. Since then, they’ve invested in me and given me opportunities to grow and learn, all in support of pursuing my own dreams. Now that dream is a reality. I leave with confidence that — together — we’ve made a difference. That’s what this station does; it’s who we are and always will be.”

News Director Shayla Teater added, “He is a true team player with an immense amount of dedication to sharing important weather information with purpose and context. He will be missed, but we’re so excited for this next chapter! Congratulations, Skot!”

Skot will be with THV11 through the total eclipse of the sun, leading our THV11 Eclipse Central Coverage, before transitioning to northwest Arkansas in mid-April.
