LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Make sure you've got your green on!

We're just one week away from St. Patrick's Day. The holiday has been celebrated in the United States since about 1762 when New York City held its first St. Patrick's Day parade.

The celebration of Irish heritage falls on March 17 every year, and it honors Saint Patrick who is best known for bringing Christianity into America more than 1,000 years ago.

People typically celebrate the holiday by wearing the color green, attending parades, and drinking Irish brews.
