HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — Update: As of May 9, Peninsula Drive and Lakeland Point remain closed.
Severe storms passed through south Hot Springs overnight, damaging homes and property and leaving thousands without power.
According to reports, Hot Springs Fire Department crews performed search and rescue operations in the Lakeland Drive and Peninsula Drive communities. At this time, the following streets are impassable and should be avoided:
- Peninsula Drive to Bayshore Loop
- Lakeland starting at Robinhood and further toward the lake
- Davidson Drive starting at Shadygrove Road
No deaths have been reported at this time and only slight injuries have been documented. Fire crews are working with Summit Utilities to contain three gas leaks at the following locations:
- 400 Peninsula Drive
- 280 Davidson Drive
- 143 South Lakeland Point
Points of access have been established in these neighborhoods, and fire crews will be on-site to assist with clean-up.
Additionally, the City's Animal Services building on Davidson Drive sustained light damage. One shed roof was destroyed and about 200 yards of electrical lines were down due to downed trees.
The City of Hot Springs Compost Facility at 318 Davidson Drive is open and offering free storm debris drop-off for those in need. They are open from 8:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The Hot Springs CAPS Services will be collecting storm debris that has been left on the curb, but scheduled pick-up services for regular solid waste CAPS have been postponed until the week of May 21, 2024.
