Stuttgart awarded $2M grant to support job growth & water infrastructure improvements

The grant will go toward the Stuttgart Industrial Development Corporation and be used to expand the area's water and sewer services and promote job growth.
Lawmakers are gathering at the capitol for a special legislative session after Gov. Sanders asked to lower taxes and address funding for one of the state's agencies.

STUTTGART, Arkansas — The City of Stuttgart has been awarded a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) for water infrastructure improvements and to promote job growth in the area.

“For far too long, infrastructure investment in rural America has been ignored by the federal government. In Arkansas, we know better than most that focused investments in our farming communities can help ensure their economic success,” said Representative Eric Crawford (AR-1). “Stuttgart is the Rice Capital of America, and I’m pleased that this investment will bolster the businesses that will power the continued growth of Arkansas’ largest industry, agriculture, well into the future.”

The grant will go toward the Stuttgart Industrial Development Corporation and be used to expand water and sewer services at Stuttgart Industrial Park to support manufacturing business growth.

The funding is expected to create 54 new jobs and generate roughly $79 million in private investment. It will also be matched with $515,013 in local funds.

“The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to providing the infrastructure to support economic growth in Arkansas and across the country,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This EDA investment will provide the water and sewer services needed to support manufacturing business growth, spurring private investment and creating jobs for a stronger regional economy.”
