LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Summit Utilities filed the 2024 winter gas rates with the Arkansas Public Service Commission (APSC) on Thursday and said Arkansans will see the lowest winter season gas rates since 2021.
The company said the proposed gas price will bring "welcome relief" to Arkansas's working families. Residential customers will pay $0.78 per hundred cubic feet (ccf) for their winter natural gas usage.
Customers paid $0.79 per ccf in winter 2023 and $1.22 in 2022. The new winter gas rate is 36% less than two years ago.
"Our team is committed to securing 'the lowest natural gas prices for our customers,'" said Fred Kirkwood, chief customer experience officer at Summit Utilities. “For customers who may need assistance with their bills, we encourage you to reach out to our customer service team to learn more about average monthly billing options and payment assistance programs designed to keep you and your family safe and warm.”
The APSC requires Summit to adjust its gas cost each year on Nov. 1 and April 1. According to Summit Utilities, they do not profit from the cost of natural gas delivered to its customers’ homes or businesses.
Gas is a passthrough cost not associated with Summit’s rate case, which is pending before the APSC.
