LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Summit Utilities announced on Thursday afternoon that they have now filed a request for a rate increase with the Arkansas Public Service Commission. This was done as part of the approved settlement agreement when Summit Utilities acquired Centerpoint Energy's assets.
The APSC required Summit to file what is known as a rate case. This is when current rates are no longer enough to cover the actual costs so an adjustment to company rates must be requested from the Arkansas Public Service Commission.
Summit Utilities sent out an email to residential and small commercial sales customers in Arkansas which explained that if their request is approved by the APSC, then a traditional customer that uses about 45 Ccf a month will have an increased bill of close to $19.00. Any small commercial sales customers that use about 220 Ccf per month would see an increase in their bill of close to $30.00.
In both cases, customers would not see a base increase rate on their bills until the end of the ten-month rate case process that was started on January 25.
The letter went on to explain that their existing rates have been in place since they acquired the company in 2022 and that the proposed rate more accurately depicts the cost of business amid the rising costs.
