JACKSONVILLE, Ark. — Update: The Jacksonville Police Department officer who was involved in this incident has been identified as Jacob Davidson. He remains on paid administrative leave as per department policy.
At the request of the Jacksonville Police Department (JPD), the Criminal Investigation Division of Arkansas State Police is now investigating a shooting incident involving an officer that happened on December 3.
Officers with JPD responded to reports of an armed robbery at a Waffle House located at 116 Marshall Road.
According to reports, the suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Vashun Mayo, was injured after one of the officers was able to enter the building. Mayo fired two more rounds at the officers while leaving through the back door.
He then ran off into the woods and officers struck him once in the lower left leg. Mayo then said he had 'given up' and officers began giving him aid.
The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for a nonlife-threatening wound.
During the incident, one officer received minor wounds on his left hand while working to catch Mayo. The officer was placed on paid administrative leave as per Jacksonville Police Department Policy.
Mayo has been charged with several charges including attempted capital murder, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a certain person, theft by receiving, endangering the welfare of a minor, terroristic threatening, aggravated assault, tampering with physical evidence, second-degree battery, and fleeing.
