LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Did you know that my favorite shrub is the Boxwood? There are so many varieties from variegated to dark green foliage, but I happen to love the Wintergreen Boxwood since it stays dark green all year long.
What I really enjoy most about boxwoods is that I can use them in pots throughout my garden. Just take any size Terra Cotta pot, and plant a boxwood in the container. Dress it with green sheet moss or perhaps some hens and chicks plants around the rim. Trim the boxwood into a sphere, and you have the perfect elegant accessory to dress up any garden, front porch and/or patio.
Remember, since boxwoods are perennial shrubs, they will stay in the same pot for years to come, so fertilize with any all-purpose plant food at least twice during the growing season.
Some varieties such as the Koren and English can turn a rusty color in the winter. I like this look, but others think that such a brownish hue makes the plant look sickly.
