ARKANSAS COUNTY, Ark. — Update: An ARDOT incident report said the train was cleared off the road around 10 p.m. on Saturday.
On Friday, a train derailed onto Highway 79 in Arkansas County just 4.2 miles northeast of Stuttgart.
According to the Stuttgart Police Department, the train derailed around 6:30 p.m. near Highway 79 towards Ulm at the Arkansas and Prairie county line. No injuries have been reported.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) said in a crash report that all lanes of Highway 79 are blocked while crews work to remove the train from the road.
A Union Pacific representative said 40 train cars derailed, but only one is blocking the road. Union Pacific also confirmed there are no hazardous materials at the derailment site.
The cause of the derailment is currently unknown. The Stuttgart Fire Department expects the train to block traffic for about eight hours as crews work to clear the scene.
In the meantime, ARDOT is diverting traffic onto Highway 146.
