OHKAY OWINGEH PUEBLO, NM (CNN) -- The oldest catholic parish in the United States is celebrating its 415th birthday.
The original San Juan Bautista Parish Church was built in 1598 in New Mexico by Spanish Franciscan priests. Though the original building no longer exists, the parish is recognized as the oldest in the country.
To mark its anniversary, the church got a brand new door, topped with a bronze sculpture. The sculpture depicts john the Baptist baptizing Jesus Christ.
The church marked its anniversary on Sunday.
