HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) – Two ASU-Beebe at Heber Springs welders will be competing for the national title in the American Welding Society TeamUSA Finals.

Blaine Hipp and Jacob Miller competed in the American Welding Society U.S Invitational Weld Trials in Alabama and placed in the top three, according to a statement released by ASU-Beebe’s Public Relations Coordinator, Ruth Charlene Chambers.

This is Miller’s second time to compete in the American Welding Society U.S. Invitational Weld Trials. His first time to compete was in 2014. He advanced to the TeamUSA Finals and finished seven points behind first place, according to Chambers.

Hipp has also done well in welding competitions. In high school, he won a bronze medal in 2013 and a gold medal in both 2014 and 2015 at the Arkansas SkillsUSA state champions and then went on to place tenth in the national competition in 2014 and fourth in 2015, according to Chambers.

The TeamUSA Finals will take place in February. The winner will go on to compete at the WorldSkills Welding Competition in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in October.
